We have had strong entries in several head races so far this year.
The Head of the Plym on 24th January saw wins for our Senior A / Veteran Mens Four who also finished second overall in both Divisions. The club was also represented in Mens Single and Mens, Mixed and J15 Double Sculls.
At the City of Bristol Head race on 21st February, Katie Cudmore and Zoe Dinsdale won the Ladies J15 Double Sculls. At the same event, the Mens IM2 Coxed Four comprising Rus Bammens, Nick Cleasby and novices Jamie Dawe and Chris Akers finished 2nd in their division and 22nd overall. Jamie also competed at Mens Novice Single Sculls while Chris rowed again with Maurice Dunn in the Mens Novice Double Sculls.
There was more success for Katie and Zoe at the West Region Junior Inter Regional Rowing Time Trials held at Dart Totnes on 6th March 2010. Winning the Ladies J15 Double Sculls they also claimed the first ever Torquay win at this event.
On the same day at the Avon County Head Maurice and Jamie were winners at Mens Novice Double Sculls, with Maurice also competing in the same class with Nic Bourne of Teign Scullers. Jamie also finished second in the Mens Novice Single Sculls.
At the 40th Head of the Dart, the Torquay coxed four of Mike, Nick, Gary, Russ and cox George won the Mens Veteran class and were the fastest coxed four on the day in a time of
49:29. Also competing were Maurice and Ryan Dunn finishing second in the Mens Novice Double Sculls class, Ian Wilson who won at Mens Veteran F Single Sculls, and the Ladies Novice crew adjusting to calmer waters in the Coastal Quad Four.
On the same day, Katie and Zoe represented Torquay Rowing Club and the South West region at the national Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR) held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham, finishing 10th overall.
