What are you in for? A great sport either for fun or competition providing you with good exercise and fitness throughout the year and a chance to meet sociable friends from all walks of life. Who do you contact? For information and to be sure you will be greeted at the Boathouse contact our Welfare Officer Rob Smith on 01803 406855. Where do you go? The Rowing club is situated on Beacon Quay, Torquay Harbour at the end of the tunnel that runs alongside the steps by the Living Coast attraction opposite the slipway where we boat onto the water. When can you go? Club night training during the week is on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7.00pm. This involves land training consisting of ;- Circuits, Weight training, Ergo (Rowing Machine) and running for general fitness. On Sunday mornings we have water outings from 10.00am until 12.00. What do you wear? For the land training nights you will require general training gear for example T Shirt, Shorts or leggings, socks and trainers. For in the boat, it is best to wear many layers of thin warm tops that can be peeled off as you get warmer through the session. It is also advisable to bring a towel and a change of clothing especially if its raining. Shoes are bolted on the foot stretchers in the boat. All rowers are expected to wear the Club Kit when racing. View our Kit Page for details. How do you learn? The Club runs a beginners course which consists of ten sessions run over seven weeks. Three session are land based in the Boathouse or Clubroom. Six sessions are on the water in various boats i.e. Sculling or sweep oared and one session which is the capsize drill and swim test (50m) in a swimming pool. We require a minimum of four people to run the course but this does not mean you cannot come down and join in before hand. After the beginners course you will be moved into the various squads, Ladies Novice, Men's Novice, Junior Ladies or Junior Men. What will it cost you? The annual subscriptions can be found on the Membership Page. We will ask for a nominal fee of £10.00 to all participants of the beginners course. This will in turn be deducted from your subscription when you fully join the club. In addition to the subscriptions racing rowers pay for their race entry fees and chip in for boat transportation to regattas. Juniors have their race entries paid for by the club.
